TAMPA, Fla. – WIll the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a 2020 preseason schedule? The NFL decided to shorten its preseason from 4-weeks to 2-weeks in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ways in which it’s affecting the NFL’s ability to kick off the season. NFL players don’t think this be will enough to mitigate the risks.

According to ESPN, an NFL Players Association source said Friday, that the union’s board of player representatives had voted to recommend not having any 2020 preseason games. The matter came to a vote during a Thursday evening call with NFLPA player reps, and the source said the vote was unanimous.

It’s unclear whether the NFL will consider the players’ recommendation. The league has yet to formally announce the reduction of the preseason from four games to two, although a source told ESPN’s Kevin Seifert on Wednesday that the decision had been made.

The league believes it is its right within the current collective bargaining agreement to set the preseason schedule, per Garafolo.

“It’s clear that the union and the league are not on the same page with regard to the length of the preseason right now,” Garafolo said during his report on NFL NOW.
