Invest L-91 Poses Rain Threat to Central America and Mexico Before Moving Inland
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is closely monitoring Invest L-91, an area of disturbed weather currently located over the northwestern Caribbean and Yucatan Peninsula, as its chances for development in the Gulf of America have reportedly increased.
As of Friday evening, a broad area of low pressure associated with large showers and thunderstorms is expected to move into the Bay of Campeche this weekend. The NHC indicates a 30% chance of formation for Invest L-91 over the next 48 hours to 7 days.

However, forecasters anticipate a short window for significant organization. By Monday, the system is projected to move inland over eastern Mexico, which would effectively diminish its potential for further development into a tropical cyclone.
Despite the relatively low chances for tropical depression or storm formation, residents in parts of Belize, Guatemala, and southeastern Mexico should prepare for the possibility of heavy rains during the next few days, regardless of whether the system fully develops.

The 2025 Atlantic hurricane season officially began on June 1st and will continue through November 30th. While this season has seen some activity, with Tropical Storm Andrea forming earlier in June, the basin has largely remained quiet.
