Former NHL star Jeremy Roenick joined FOX News Channel’s Jesse Watters Primetime to discuss the U.S. Olympic hockey team’s gold medal victory and the viral locker room celebration featuring FBI Director Kash Patel.
When asked by host Jesse Watters if there was a problem with the Director “knocking back beers” with the players, Roenick dismissed the criticism, arguing the moment was about national pride rather than politics.
“Are you kidding me? We got to celebrate America,” Roenick said. “I’m so proud and happy that we have an FBI director who’s a real human, a real human that’s not like a puppet, that doesn’t do what everybody tells him to do.”
Roenick, who reflected on the intense rivalry with Canada, described the win as one of the most significant in the nation’s history. He noted that Patel’s presence in the room was a reflection of a genuine fan enjoying a historic achievement.

“He loves hockey. He loves America. He went out there to celebrate America,” Roenick told Watters. Recalling the 1980 “Miracle on Ice,” Roenick admitted he related to the Director’s excitement. “I remember, when I was there in 1980 and watched that game… how proud I was. I wish I could have been in that locker room drinking a beer. So, good on Kash Patel.”
The former Olympian also addressed the negative reaction from some corners of social media, labeling the pushback as unnecessary politicization. “Sports is not supposed to be political. It’s supposed to unite the country,” Roenick stated. “The hypocrites are coming out in droves. And it’s unfortunate that we can’t take one of the greatest moments in sports and all celebrate it.”
He emphasized that the team’s performance, along with the success of the women’s team, marked the “best Olympics in Olympic history” for United States hockey.
Looking ahead to the team’s appearance at the State of the Union, Roenick predicted the players would continue to show the same character they did on the ice in Italy.
“They’re going to represent the U.S. exactly like they did over there,” he said. “They represent with respect, with a lot of patriotism and proud Americans.” Roenick concluded by celebrating the rare feat of besting the Canadian team for the gold, shouting, “We are Olympic gold medalists in hockey. It’s about time. Yes!”
