The Predator Behind the Prowler: Serial Rapist Gets 327 Months
The reign of terror is over. Deandre Martece Williams, a man who a federal judge said displayed a “breathtaking” and “utter disregard for human dignity,” has been sentenced to 327 months in prison for a brutal series of armed robberies, non-fatal shootings, and rapes that gripped the city of Detroit in 2023.
United States District Judge Mark A. Goldsmith delivered the sentence after detailing Williams’s “nightmarish” conduct.
Over a three-month period, Williams victimized 15 people in eight separate incidents, seriously injuring four and raping three at gunpoint. His predatory pattern, which often targeted sex workers and their customers, involved approaching victims in parked cars, holding them at gunpoint, and then shooting at them as they tried to escape.

“He didn’t just break the law — he shattered families, preyed on the vulnerable, instilled fear, and left a trail of mayhem wherever he went,” said ATF Special Agent in Charge James Deir, calling Williams a “ruthless predator.”
The investigation, a joint effort between the Detroit Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), was a testament to meticulous police work. Fired cartridge casings from multiple shooting scenes were connected using the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN), identifying a pattern that led authorities to Williams. A federal search warrant executed at his home turned up the very handgun used in the robberies.
The case also brought unexpected justice. Evidence from Williams’s federal arrest led to DNA linking him to an unsolved 2012 sexual assault. For that crime, he had already been sentenced to up to 20 years in prison earlier this year.

“For years, he was prowling around our streets,” said U.S. Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon Jr., “but through ingenuity and hard work, the ATF and DPD made our city safer.”
Williams, who used a dating app to lure one victim to a hotel room where he held and repeatedly raped them for hours, will now spend the next 27 years behind bars. As Special Agent Deir put it: “Williams will now need to pack a suitcase because he will be behind bars. Exactly, where he deserves to be.”
