TAMPA, Fla. – Kitchen tables in Hillsborough County are getting a boost this weekend. On Saturday, March 28, the Jackson Springs Recreation Center will transform into a hub for both fresh food and medical wellness as the County’s Healthy Living Program hosts a massive community health fair.
The main draw for many will be the morning grocery distribution. Starting at 9:00 a.m., residents can pick up free food—no income requirements or background checks necessary. In partnership with Feeding Tampa Bay, the county plans to distribute a variety of staples, including fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, and pantry essentials such as rice and beans.
The food giveaway is scheduled to run until 10:30 a.m., or until supplies run out.
However, the event doesn’t end when the last crate of produce is gone. The broader health fair continues until noon at the 8620 Jackson Springs Rd. location. While parents gather information on the Hillsborough County Health Care Plan, children can take part in various activities and giveaways designed for families.

The fair is also acting as a mobile clinic of sorts. Staff will be on-site to provide free health screenings and vaccinations, depending on availability.
These services are part of the Healthy Living Program’s mission to provide “guidance and resources for a healthy lifestyle” through local, on-site services like fitness centers, nutritional counseling, and cooking classes.
For those who can’t make it this Saturday but need help managing chronic conditions like diabetes or are looking for weight loss resources, the program offers year-round educational activities at various centers across the county.
Residents looking for more details about the Saturday event or the county’s various health coverage options are encouraged to call (813) 272-5040.
