No Deal With Iran: Vance Walks Away After 21-Hour Marathon Nuclear Talks Collapse

Vice President JD Vance stood before two American flags today to announce that 21 hours of high-stakes negotiations with Iran have collapsed without a deal.

Flanked by special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Vance confirmed that the Iranian delegation refused to meet U.S. demands regarding the long-term prevention of nuclear weaponry.

The Vice President emphasized that the administration remained in lockstep throughout the process. Vance noted that he spoke with President Donald Trump “a half dozen times, a dozen times, over the past 21 hours” to coordinate their strategy.

He also maintained regular contact with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Admiral Brad Cooper of U.S. Central Command. Vance also extended thanks to the Pakistani government, noting they did an “amazing job” trying to help bridge the gap between the two nations.

According to Vance, the primary sticking point was a lack of a “fundamental commitment of will” from the Iranian side.

“The simple fact is that we need to see an affirmative commitment that they will not seek a nuclear weapon, and they will not seek the tools that would enable them to quickly achieve a nuclear weapon,” Vance told reporters. He characterized this requirement as the “core goal” of the President’s administration and noted that the U.S. demand applies not just now or two years from now, but for the long term.

Despite what Vance described as negotiating in “good faith” and making their “best effort,” the talks ended when it became clear the American “final and best offer” would not be accepted.

The Vice President stated that while the U.S. was flexible and accommodating on some issues, including discussions on frozen assets, they would not compromise on their “red lines.”

The briefing was concise. Vance spoke for roughly one minute before answering three questions from reporters.

After just over three minutes at the podium, the Vice President offered a quick word of thanks and walked away, declining to take further questions as he exited the room.
