A North Carolina woman was arrested late Tuesday night in the Florida Keys after driving into a sheriff’s office substation while allegedly intoxicated with an 11-year-old child in her vehicle.
Heidy Jazmin Aleman, 34, of Thomasville, North Carolina, was charged with driving under the influence and child neglect following the incident on July 14, 2026. Authorities reported that no injuries occurred.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Aleman drove a BMW sedan into the Cudjoe Key substation at approximately 11:10 p.m. to ask a sheriff’s sergeant for directions. A sergeant on the scene noted that Aleman appeared intoxicated.
Deputies had previously received reports regarding the same BMW, which had been observed driving recklessly on U.S. 1 prior to pulling into the station.
Aleman was asked to perform field sobriety exercises, which the sheriff’s office stated she failed. She was subsequently arrested and transported to a local jail facility.
The 11-year-old passenger inside the BMW was taken by authorities to a children’s shelter. Deputies confirmed a family member was traveling to the shelter to take custody of the child.
