Garrett Rogers Sentenced for 2021 Crimes Against Two Women; Sheriff Says Conviction Sends ‘Strong Message’
North Carolina man Garrett Christopher Rogers has been convicted and sentenced to prison for the kidnapping and rape of two women in 2021, the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office announced today.
Rogers was sentenced Wednesday to 300 to 432 months (25 to 36 years) in prison after being convicted on multiple felony charges. The conviction follows an investigation that began in 2021 when the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office (NHSO) responded to reports of two women who had been kidnapped and raped. During the course of the investigation, Rogers was identified as the perpetrator.

According to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office, investigators worked closely with prosecutors from the New Hanover County District Attorney’s Office to build a case strong enough to secure a conviction without the victims having to endure the trauma of testifying in court.
Sheriff Ed McMahon praised the collaborative effort of law enforcement and prosecutors.
“This conviction sends a strong message that violent crimes in our community will not be tolerated,” said Sheriff McMahon. “We are grateful for the tireless efforts of our team and our valued partners in the District Attorney’s Office, as we continue to stand in support of victims.”

District Attorney Jason Smith highlighted the effectiveness of the “Police-Prosecutor Team Approach” in securing this outcome.
“Thanks to ADA Connie Jordan’s close working relationship with Detective Benton, we were able to identify additional victims after the first report,” said DA Smith. “This developed a case that led Rogers to accept responsibility for his actions against every victim.”
Rogers will begin serving his prison sentence immediately.
