North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis Stands Firm On FBI Director Support Despite Recent Allegations

Senator Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) reaffirmed his support for FBI Director Kash Patel during an interview Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” addressing recent reports regarding Patel’s conduct.

Moderator Kristen Welker questioned Tillis on his confidence in the FBI Director following a report from The Atlantic. The article alleged that Patel’s tenure has been characterized by “conspicuous inebriation and unexplained absences,” claims that Patel has denied.

Tillis, who played a key role in Patel’s confirmation process within the Judiciary Committee, dismissed the report as insufficient evidence to withdraw his backing.

“This is one article,” Tillis told Welker. “I work purely on facts and corroboration. When I see a corroboration, then I’m willing to have a discussion about these allegations.”

The Senator noted that such reports are a common occurrence in the political landscape of Washington, D.C. He indicated a willingness to review any formal evidence or witness testimony should it be presented, but maintained that his current stance remains unchanged.

“Everybody gets hit with articles in D.C. and in politics,” Tillis said. “They’ve got facts out there, they’ve got witnesses, they want to lay them out, I’ll take a look at it. But at this point, I’m not changing my position on the FBI director. I support him.”
