Texas Border Migrants

“Now Is Not The Time” Biden Sends Mixed Signals to Illegal Immigrants

For nearly two years, many Americans who’ve watched Joe Biden first run for president and then try actually to govern have become accustomed to the flip-flops, the fibs, and the phoniness.

But pity those poor illegal immigrants.

They took Biden at his word – that the welcome mat was laid and the lights were left on, as one hotel chain used to put it.

Now, they know otherwise.

On Wednesday, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki practically pleaded with immigrants gathering on or heading to the Mexican border to stop.

“Due to the pandemic and the fact that we have not had the time as an administration to put in place a humane, comprehensive process for processing individuals who are coming to the border, now is not the time to come,” she told reporters.

“The vast majority of people will be turned away.”

Psaki continued, “This is obviously an emotional issue for many of us who worked on this in the past, for the president himself.”

“But we need time to put in place, and partners, to put in place, a comprehensive process, and system that will allow for processing at the border of asylum seekers, but also providing a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are in the United States.”

Reporting on the Biden administration’s backtracking, The Washington Times noted, “It’s unlikely would-be migrants in Latin America give the Biden team the time they’re asking for. Mini-caravans have already started showing up at the border in Texas, comprised of both families and children traveling without parents.”

Although Psaki has warned they will be turned away, Biden himself has indicated otherwise through his actions.

For example, he has halted funding for former President Donald Trump’s border wall, mandated a 100-day pause in deportations, announced that immigrants would not be deported for lower-level crimes, upended Trump’s ban on funding for “sanctuary cities,” promised to set illegal immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children on a path to citizenship, and ended the policy of making the asylum-seekers wait in Mexico until their claims are adjudicated.

Illegal immigrants cannot be faulted at the mixed messaging.
