As far-left Socialist Democrat Zohran Mamdani’s campaign for New York City mayor nears next Tuesday’s election, a controversial rap video from his past has resurfaced, drawing sharp criticism from a prominent gun-rights organization.

The video, made several years ago while Mamdani performed under the alias “Young Cardamom,” depicts the now-mayoral candidate waving a pistol, and includes a graphic scene showing a man being shot in the head at point-blank range.

The video’s emergence has provided potent ammunition for critics, particularly the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA), who argue it exposes a profound hypocrisy given Mamdani’s vocal platform advocating for a ban on all gun ownership.

“Here’s a guy who is running to become New York’s next mayor, and who has vowed to launch a national gun ban effort if he is elected, yet he appeared in this terrible video which essentially promoted irresponsible, violent use of firearms,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb.

Gottlieb labeled Mamdani a “huckster” and argued that for the candidate to claim a “moral high ground on the gun issue is an insult to the national intelligence.”

“Mamdani’s gun ban agenda is wrong for New York City and our constitutional rights,” Gottlieb stated. “It is clear his ideas are wrong for America, especially when it comes to the Second Amendment.”

The controversy comes as Mamdani has renewed his call for stricter gun laws in the wake of a recent tragic shooting in a Manhattan office building. Following the incident, Mamdani was quoted by the Free Beacon declaring, “As mayor, I will lead calls to ensure that we pass the legislation necessary beyond New York, such that every New Yorker can rest assured that we need not prepare for the next iteration of this horrific mass shooting.”

However, Gottlieb criticized Mamdani for what he sees as a failure to acknowledge the shooter’s violation of existing New York and New Jersey gun laws. “True to the anti-gun mindset of denial,” Gottlieb observed, “Mamdani didn’t acknowledge the complete failure of existing gun control laws to prevent that tragedy. He just wants to double down, erasing a constitutionally-protected fundamental right.”

The CCRKBA chairman suggested that while the content of the video may indicate that Mamdani himself “shouldn’t own a gun,” it does not justify stripping away the rights of “tens of millions of level-headed, responsible American gun owners.”
