A deputy in Florida was arrested early Tuesday morning on charges of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Child Neglect. Monroe County Deputy Jesus Abdiel Rojas Burgos, 30, was taken into custody by his own agency following a traffic stop.

Deputy Rojas Burgos, who was off-duty at the time of the arrest, was driving a private vehicle when he was pulled over by Sheriff’s Office personnel for speeding on U.S. 1 near Mile Marker 22 at approximately 4:34 a.m. on October 15, 2025. A young child was present in the vehicle at the time of the stop, investigators say.

Following the arrest, the child was safely picked up by a friend. Rojas Burgos was then transported to the Monroe County Detention Center.

Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay quickly addressed the incident, emphasizing his commitment to transparency within the department.

“I am committed to the public hearing about significant incidents in the Sheriff’s Office — both positive and negative — from me first,” Sheriff Ramsay stated.

Rojas Burgos was hired by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office on April 10, 2023. His employment status is currently pending the outcome of an internal affairs investigation initiated by the Sheriff’s Office.
