Off-Duty Tampa Officer Busted For 100+ MPH Sunday Morning Dash

TAMPA, Fla. – An off-duty Tampa police officer found himself on the wrong side of the law early Sunday morning after deputies clocked him flying down the interstate at triple-digit speeds.

Jason Brown was pulled over and arrested just before 6:30 a.m. on May 31, 2026, by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. According to authorities, Brown was traveling southbound on I-75 near Big Bend Road when deputies spotted his personal vehicle blasting past the 100 miles per hour mark and recklessly weaving in and out of traffic lanes.

The arrest quickly caught the attention of Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw, who did not mince words about the incident involving one of his own.

“I am deeply disappointed by this incident. Driving at excessive speeds and recklessly endangering others is unacceptable and directly contradicts our department’s mission,” Chief Bercaw said in a statement. “Alongside our community, I expect our officers to lead by example, and this conduct falls short of that expectation.”

This is not the only trouble Brown is facing within the department. Hired back in 2008, the veteran officer was already on administrative duty due to an unrelated internal investigation.

Tampa Police confirmed that the previous internal investigation is still ongoing, and this fresh highway arrest will now be reviewed as part of the overall administrative process. Brown remains on administrative duty pending the outcome.
