Ohio Man Admits To Violent Stun Gun Attack On Amish Family During Failed Kidnapping

An Ohio man has admitted his role in a 2019 home invasion where a stun gun was used against an Amish father and his 8-year-old son. Bradford Hosler, 33, pleaded guilty on Monday, March 16, to charges of aggravated robbery and kidnapping.

The plea deal, recorded in Geauga County Common Pleas Court, resulted in the dismissal of one additional aggravated robbery count and two kidnapping charges.

The case stems from an October 2019 incident in Middlefield Township. According to investigators, Hosler led a group that stormed an Amish home and business, specifically targeting the family for cash. During the raid, authorities say Hosler used a stun gun repeatedly on both the father and the young boy while demanding money.

Prosecutors stated the group attempted to abduct the 8-year-old, who was restrained and threatened before he managed to break free. The child escaped the suspects and ran across an open field to return to his father.

The attackers eventually fled the scene with approximately $5,000 in cash after ransacking the residence.

Sheriff’s officials previously identified Hosler as the “ringleader” of the operation. At the time of the attack, Hosler had been out of state custody for only a few weeks, having recently completed a sentence for domestic violence and breaking and entering.

While Hosler awaits a sentencing date, he remains in custody.

Three other men—Ricky Lee Martin, 43; William Hatfield, 44; and Randall Crome, 36—face various charges, including aggravated burglary, kidnapping, and assault, in connection with the same event.

Martin’s charges include complicity and weapons violations, while Hatfield and Crome face additional counts of theft. Trials for these three defendants have not yet begun.
