Oklahoma Bachelor Party Ends In Nightmare After Groom Mistakenly Shoots Friend At Airbnb

A weekend meant for celebration turned into a tragedy early Saturday morning when a 22-year-old groom allegedly shot and killed one of his friends during a bachelor party trip in Broken Bow.

The incident occurred just before 1:00 a.m. on April 4, 2026, at an Airbnb cabin located off Rockhill Circle. According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI), deputies initially responded to a shooting call and found 21-year-old Braden Uhlmann with a gunshot wound to his upper chest.

Uhlmann was rushed to a local hospital but later died from his injuries.

KXII reported that the groom, 22-year-old Nolan Engel, was at the cabin with three friends for his bachelor party when the shooting took place. Engel reportedly told investigators that he heard knocking noises and saw a person’s shadow outside the rental property.

Believing there was a threat, Engel fired a single shot from a 9mm handgun through the door or wall.

According to Engel’s statement to authorities, he and another friend went outside immediately after the shot was fired. There, they discovered Uhlmann lying on the porch.

OSBI special agents determined through their investigation that Engel was responsible for the fatal shot. He was arrested and booked into the McCurtain County Jail on a complaint of Second-Degree Murder.

The OSBI is continuing to process evidence from the scene and stated they “appreciate the McCurtain County Sheriff’s Department and Hochatown Police Department for their continued assistance with this investigation.” No other injuries were reported among the remaining members of the party.
