Oklahoma Democrat Thinks He Owns Conservatives With Bill Requiring Fathers To Pay For Pregnant Women’s Medical Bills

Left-wing Oklahoma state Rep. Forrest Bennett came up with what he thought was a clever way to shame conservatives for their attempts to restrict abortion.

“If Oklahoma is going to restrict a woman’s right to choose, we sure better make sure the man involved can’t just walk away from his responsibility,” he tweeted on Friday.

“This week I filed HB3129, which codifies that a father’s financial responsibility to his baby & their mom begins at conception.”

Yeah, about that.

It doesn’t exactly own conservatives to champion something they’ve spent decades advocating. On the other hand, the Oklahoma City Democrat breaks two of the cardinal rules of leftism.

First, he acknowledges that life begins at conception. Secondly, he indicates only women can get pregnant.

Bennett’s measure came in response to reports that Oklahoma Republicans may seek a number of limits on abortion, including a proposal that mirrors a Texas law that allows people to sue abortion providers or anyone who “aids and abets” an abortion, with a maximum penalty of $10,000.

His bill requires that a father pay half of the mother’s pregnancy expenses, including health insurance premiums or medical costs.

The funding even could be collected after birth, provided paternity can be proven.

At the conservative website Twitchy.com, they gathered a bunch of responses to Bennett’s tweet. It likely did not turn out as he planned.

One user tweeted to Bennett, “Congratulations, you’re a conservative.” Another added, “That’s kind of the pro-life argument dude.”

A third tweeted, “Good. That’s another issue we’ve wanted to tackle as well. At least now we will have the baseline that life begins at conception.”

“As a pro-life person, I agree. Just curious if you thought this would trigger us, because LOL if you did,” said another.

A Catholic priest in Michigan chipped in, “There’s nothing unreasonable about fathers providing for their children.”

Finally, Oklahoma GOP state Rep. Josh West, the House majority leader, added, “I’m going to make sure this bill gets a hearing. Who knew Forrest was such a champion for pro-life?”

  1. Really stupid aren’t they. Mouth opens and foot slaps itself right in. Another progressive now on the anti abortion side. We all know the knuckleheads men who impregnated these gals will fight this tooth and nail. But the poor pregnant women know their partners really love them eh?

  2. Just curious….why is this even a bill?? If you’re going to do “things”…..shouldn’t it reason that you be held responsible for the outcome??? (Like provide for the pregnant mother….and the newborn baby??)

    Call me old fashioned.

  3. I am very much a pro-life person. I can get behind this bill wholeheartedly. By the way I’m a man who fathered 6 children and supported everyone of them.

  4. This is what conservatives wanted fathers to do all along. The only people this bill would be negatively effecting are leftist hood rats and illegals, so I doubt the democrats will pass it, or if they do pass it, it won’t be enforced for nonwhites. But financial responsibility is only one side of the coin. If fathers are required to be financially responsible then that responsibility must also include equal financial responsibility from the mother and equal parenting time. 50/50. No more weekend warrior dads.

  5. DUH! That was the point in the first place. I have an even better Idea , Instead of murdering unborn children as a form of birth control. Using abortion to avoid the expenses and responsibilities of being a parent. Why don’t you just use one of the many forms of birth control , Thus removing the need for abortion. We have millions upon millions of people running around having unprotected sex not considering the consequences of their actions. We have lost all morality and personal responsibility in this country. If you are going to have sex and do not want a child use birth control then we do not require abortions. Abortions are not the problem they it is the symptom of a much larger problem. Do not criticize abortion solve the problems that result in abortions.

  6. I love this idea. Financial responsibility and parental rights to go with it!! This guy just hit it,out of the park! Want to make the nuclear family work again?? This is the way to do that!

  7. Jerry I totally agree with you. I am a man who fathered 7 (5 girls, Two boys) and I to supported all of them to the point that I paid for 6/7 Bachelor degrees (One girl wanted her MRS. and got married so…)

  8. A mother should be able to vote in lieu of her unborn child also. We need legislation stating the mother is in fact the unborn’s power of attorney and she can vote (or sue the father or others) on behalf of her constituent.
