An Oklahoma man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the 2020 brutal beating murder of his wife, Shawntae Brown, which occurred over two days in front of their three children.

Joshua Brown, 39, accepted a plea deal this week for the death of his 34-year-old wife. According to investigators, Brown beat his wife with multiple objects, including a belt, a shoe, a flagpole, and a semi-automatic handgun. The couple’s 14-year-old son reportedly told authorities he watched his father commit the violent acts.

Following the fatal assault, Brown allegedly forced his children—ages 7, 14, and 15 at the time—to “clean up the blood and mess” and threatened them not to discuss the incident. A probable cause affidavit described the victim’s body as “covered in bruises, contusions, and lacerations consistent with a severe beating.”

Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Department officials described the scene inside the family’s Spencer home as “very gruesome.” Brown was arrested after a 911 call led emergency personnel to the house on September 30, 2020. He was booked on charges of murder and child abuse.

The victim’s daughter, Aliesha Brown, expressed relief after the sentencing, telling a local affiliate, “Knowing justice has been served and due process has been done, I can finally get some peace.”
