An Oklahoma man was arrested Thursday evening after a marine deputy caught him with six queen conch at a Florida Keys resort, according to authorities.
Vu Xuan Dinh, 48, of Oklahoma City, was taken into custody on Aug. 20 around 5:47 p.m. at the Sunshine Key Resort.
Lower Keys Marine Deputy Luis Guiardinu was on routine patrol in the area when he spotted Dinh in possession of the protected mollusks, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Following the discovery, deputies transported Dinh to a local jail.
Harvesting or possessing queen conch is strictly prohibited in Florida waters to protect the dwindling species. Detailed rules on state marine life protections are available through the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission at www.myfwc.com.
