SARASOTA, Fla. – A welfare check at a Sarasota home turned into a death investigation Sunday morning after deputies discovered two people suffering from gunshot wounds.
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the 7000 block of Tides Circle around 10:32 a.m. on February 22. According to investigators, a concerned friend called 911 to request the check after receiving a phone call from an individual making “unusual and worrying” comments.
Upon arriving at the scene, deputies looked inside the house and spotted two injured individuals. After entering the home, they found 26-year-old Lily Z. Yard deceased from a gunshot wound to the head. Jordan M. Rouff, 40, was also located inside with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Though Rouff was still alive when deputies arrived, he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Section have since learned that Yard and Rouff were in an on-again, off-again relationship and had recently moved into the Tides Circle home together.
While authorities have notified the next of kin for both individuals, the sheriff’s office says the investigation remains active as they work to piece together the final moments leading up to the shooting.
