The social media feed of left-wing actor Mark Ruffalo may best capture the ongoing meltdown by and hypocrisy of leftist institutions — the mainstream media, the Democratic Party, Hollywood — over Elon Musk revealing Twitter’s secrets.
On Friday, Ruffalo issued a tweet promoting a documentary about the killing of Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in May. The veteran Al Jazeera reporter was killed in the crossfire of an Israeli Defense Force raid on a Palestinian camp.
But at the same time he fretted about vulnerable journalists and stopping governmental oppression, Ruffalo was ripping reports about Twitter after Musk funneled a trove of documents to journalist Matt Taibbi that conveyed how Twitter’s previous regime attempted to influence the 2020 election for Joe Biden. He called for the government to “heavily” regulate otherwise free speech and freedom of the press.
Ruffalo’s first incoherent comment was a tweet about the investigation into Akleh’s death. Israel revealed that she was likely, but accidentally, shot by its own soldiers.

“American journalists like Shireen Abu Akleh who reported on the Palestinian experience are being murdered by repressive regimes,” Ruffalo tweeted. “As part of [President Joe] Biden’s fight for democracy, we must protect the lives of our journalists & bring the oppressors to justice. Please watch this documentary.”
For one thing, Ruffalo had the “repressive” part backward. Arabs roam freely throughout Israel and even serve in its elected parliament. Meanwhile, Jews who wander into Palestinian areas take their lives into their hands.
Also, some “fight” by Biden.
Two weeks ago, the Biden White House and the State Department told the Israelis that they did not encourage or condone Attorney General Merrick Garland’s own investigation into Akleh’s death.
This would be the same White House that long lamented the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, reportedly ordered by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, only to recently grant Salman immunity from a wrongful death lawsuit brought by Khashoggi’s girlfriend.

Nonetheless, even as he called for more openness against “oppression” in Israel, a day earlier Ruffalo was demanding Biden essentially shut down Twitter.
Ruffalo on Thursday responded to a Huffington Post tweet that Musk would be “rolling back” Twitter’s rules that were intended to “combat misinformation.”
“As a worldwide ‘public square,’ this app should be heavily regulated for misinformation & spamming by hostile interests. If Elon can’t do that with his ‘company,’ it should be seen as a public utility under governmental supervision. This system unregulated will be more deadly,” Ruffalo tweeted.
Showing how out of touch Ruffalo was, hours after that, Musk released the documents about how the Biden campaign and Twitter stoked misinformation and suppression of speech by actively hiding the New York Post’s story about Hunter Biden’s laptop.
Consistency must not be something they teach in acting school.
