SARASOTA, Fla. – The Sarasota Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened at the Sarasota County Fairgrounds, 3000 Ringling Boulevard, Sarasota, on Saturday, March 20, 2021, just after 10 p.m.
Sarasota Police officers who were working a detail at the fairgrounds were alerted about a possible disturbance. Preliminary information suggests one person pulled out a gun and shot another person.
One adult male victim, age 18, was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with serious injuries and is in stable condition Sunday morning after surgery.
Sarasota Police detectives have no evidence to believe this was a random encounter between the shooter and victim. The suspect shooter is not in custody at this time.
Police say, “This remains preliminary information and the investigation remains active and ongoing.”
