BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – One person was shot in Brooksville on Thursday, and deputies are searching for the gunman.
The shooting happened in the area of Shayne Street and Cook Avenue in Brooksville, investigators say.
According to deputies, the preliminary investigation reveals the suspect vehicle is possibly a dark-colored sedan, which fled the area at a high rate of speed.
“An innocent child could have been shot and killed,” said Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis. “That is certainly not something we want to happen.”
Nienhuis added that there is a person of interest that investigators will be tracking down.
The victim was transported to a local hospital, and their condition is unknown at this time.
