MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – An Orlando man is behind bars after a Wednesday night traffic stop in the Florida Keys turned into a significant drug bust along U.S. 1. Authorities arrested 24-year-old Renee Jesus Perez on February 18 following a roadside investigation that uncovered dozens of grams of illegal narcotics.
The incident began around 9:16 p.m. near Mile Marker 74. According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies had been monitoring Perez after he was allegedly seen handling suspected drugs at a nearby gas station a short time earlier. When deputies pulled his vehicle over, a subsequent search of the car led to the discovery of approximately 43.3 grams of cocaine.
Perez now faces a string of serious charges, including trafficking in cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and the use of a two-way communications device to facilitate a felony.
Following the discovery of the contraband, Perez was taken into custody without further incident and transported to Monroe County Jail for processing.
Local law enforcement officials confirmed the weight of the seized substances but have not yet released information regarding the suspect’s bond status or upcoming court dates.
