POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A high-speed chase involving a stolen vehicle on Thursday night ended with a successful police maneuver and the arrest of an Orlando man on multiple felony charges, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO).

The incident began around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 25th, when a deputy spotted a stolen 2021 Kia Forte traveling west on I-4 near Champions Gate. The vehicle had been reported stolen the previous day, September 24th, out of Orlando.

Additional law enforcement units, including the PCSO Aviation unit in a helicopter, were notified and joined the pursuit. Deputies attempted a traffic stop on the stolen Kia once it reached the Polk Parkway, but the driver allegedly accelerated drastically, reaching speeds of approximately 120 mph in an attempt to flee.

The PCSO helicopter took over tracking the vehicle from the air, guiding patrol units waiting ahead. As the Kia approached the intersection of the Polk Parkway and Winter Lake Road, deputies successfully deployed stop sticks. While the stop sticks destroyed the Kia’s passenger-side tires, the driver continued to try to escape.

The chase came to an abrupt end when a deputy successfully performed a PIT maneuver (Precision Immobilization Technique) on the vehicle, causing it to become disabled. The driver was quickly taken into custody.

The suspect was identified as 26-year-old Tyrese Marshall of Orlando. He was taken to the Sheriff’s Processing Center and booked on charges including Grand Theft Motor Vehicle, Fleeing to Elude, and Driving While License Suspended/Revoked.
