A trip to the gas station changed a Kissimmee man’s life. The Florida Lottery confirmed Tuesday that 59-year-old Rafael Arciniegas Rosario claimed a $1 million prize after playing the GOLD RUSH LEGACY scratch-off game.

Arciniegas Rosario traveled to the lottery headquarters in Tallahassee on December 10 to process his claim. Rather than taking the full amount in installments, he opted for a single, lump-sum payment of $640,000.00.

The winning ticket was a $20 investment made at the RaceTrac located at 6803 Conway Road in Orlando. By choosing that specific ticket, Arciniegas Rosario hit one of the 20 available $1 million prizes offered in the game.

The GOLD RUSH LEGACY game hit the market in April 2024. It was designed with a massive prize pool, including four top prizes of $10 million and over $894 million in total cash. According to lottery officials, the overall odds of winning any prize in the game are 1-in-2.97.

These types of instant-win games are the backbone of Florida’s lottery system. In the 2024-2025 fiscal year, scratch-offs accounted for roughly 74 percent of all ticket sales.

Since the Florida Lottery began, these games have paid out more than $70.8 billion to players and produced 2,475 millionaires. Beyond the individual winners, the games have contributed over $20.98 billion to the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund.
