POLK COUNTY, Fla. – An Orlando teenager is facing multiple charges after a high-speed attempt to outrun law enforcement ended with his bike in flames on the side of the highway.

On Thursday, January 29, a Polk County Sheriff’s deputy spotted 19-year-old Najier Tyrique Haines weaving through westbound traffic on I-4 near Davenport. According to official reports, Haines was clocked on radar traveling at 130 mph—exactly double the posted 65 mph speed limit.

While the deputy initially attempted to pull the black Honda motorcycle over, the pursuit was quickly called off.

Citing the extreme recklessness of the rider and the potential danger to other drivers, the deputy deactivated his lights and siren and stayed back. The “escape” was short-lived, however. Minutes later, dispatch received calls about a motorcycle fire just a few miles down the road.

When the same deputy arrived at the scene of the blaze, he found Haines standing by the smoking remains of the bike. Haines reportedly told the officer he had been forced to pull over once the motorcycle ignited.

He was taken into custody without further incident and transported to jail. Haines now faces three separate charges, including felony fleeing to elude, reckless driving, and dangerous excessive speeding.
