Three men were arrested on Aug. 6 after law enforcement executed a search warrant at a Palm Coast residence as part of an ongoing overdose death investigation.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit, Major Case Unit, and SWAT team served the warrant at 1 Roxbury Lane. Upon arrival, SWAT deputies observed Michael McDermott, 39, run from the back patio into the main bedroom. Several other occupants also moved from the living room into the bedroom.
After breaching the front door, the SWAT team secured four individuals without incident. Detectives searched the home and seized fentanyl and narcotics paraphernalia found in plain view.
They also recovered multiple ripped, wet plastic bags in the shower, which investigators determined were consistent with an attempt to destroy evidence.
Deputies arrested McDermott, Matthew Green, 38, and Kavin Price, 50. All three were charged with possession of fentanyl, tampering with evidence, and possession of drug paraphernalia. McDermott was additionally charged with obstruction without violence. A fourth occupant present at the scene was not arrested.
The three men were transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility. Price was released on a $6,500 bond. McDermott and Green remain in custody on bonds of $7,000 and $6,500, respectively.
The warrant stems from an overdose death investigation that began in July.
“This warrant started from an investigation into an overdose death, and we will continue that investigation until we can hold the poison peddler who caused that death accountable,” said Sheriff Rick Staly.
According to FCSO records, all three suspects have prior criminal histories in Flagler County:
- McDermott has 15 previous arrests in the county, including charges for possession of cocaine with intent to sell, fentanyl, heroin, and methamphetamine, alongside charges for kidnapping, grand theft of a motor vehicle, aggravated assault, and fleeing law enforcement. He has served one state prison sentence.
- Green has 13 prior arrests, including charges for sale of oxycodone, robbery with a firearm, burglary of an occupied dwelling, and shoplifting. He has served multiple state prison sentences.
- Price has eight previous arrests, including charges for possession of a controlled substance and unlicensed carrying of a firearm. He has served one state prison sentence.
“These dirtbag poison peddlers all have lengthy arrest records. It’s time they all go to prison,” Sheriff Staly added. “Now, they’re back in the Green Roof Inn where they belong, and they may be facing even more charges once we finish our homicide investigation.”
The death investigation remains ongoing, and authorities indicated additional charges may be filed.
