HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – Motorists traveling on State Road 50 (Cortez Boulevard) in Hernando County should prepare for both daytime and overnight lane closures starting Sunday, October 26, through Friday, October 31, 2025. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 7 has announced a summary of planned road work that will necessitate periodic flagging and brief traffic stops.
The affected stretch of SR 50 is located from Ridge Manor Boulevard to Riverland Clay Sink Road.
Overnight closures will be in effect from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night, beginning Sunday, October 26, and continuing through the night of Thursday, October 30. During these hours, periodic flagging operations will be utilized to manage traffic flow, resulting in brief, intermittent traffic stops.
Daytime closures are also scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., running from Monday, October 27, through Friday, October 31. Similar to the night work, traffic will be controlled by periodic flagging, and drivers should expect brief traffic stops.
FDOT advises drivers to allow for extra travel time or seek alternate routes, especially during peak construction hours. All work is weather-dependent and subject to change. Drivers are urged to exercise caution in the work zone and adhere to all temporary signage and flagging instructions.
