ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A morning at the waterfront turned tragic on Friday when a 31-year-old woman was found dead in the water near Lassing Park.
Police officers responded to a call at 10 a.m. regarding an unresponsive woman floating close to the shoreline at 2042 Beach Drive S.E. Emergency crews from Fire Rescue arrived shortly after and confirmed that the woman, who was wearing a bathing suit, was deceased.
During the initial sweep of the area, investigators located a paddleboard floating nearby and several personal items left on the shore.
Detectives launched an investigation and identified the woman. Through their initial inquiries, officials confirmed that she had been out on the water paddleboarding prior to her death.
According to police, the circumstances surrounding the incident do not appear suspicious at this time. However, the Pinellas Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to officially determine and confirm the exact cause of death.
Authorities have not released the woman’s name, stating that her identity is being withheld until her next of kin can be properly notified.
