SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – A two-vehicle, nearly head-on collision on State Road 471 in Sumter County this morning resulted in the death of a Palm Harbor man, according to a report released by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 8:25 AM just north of Main Line Road.
According to troopers, a Nissan Rogue driven by a 32-year-old man from Lakeland was traveling northbound on SR-471, while a Volkswagen sedan driven by a 42-year-old man from Palm Harbor, was traveling southbound on the same road
Investigators say the driver of the Nissan Rogue attempted to pass other northbound traffic. In doing so, the Nissan crossed into the southbound lane and collided almost head-on with the oncoming Volkswagen sedan.
The driver of the Volkswagen sedan, the 42-year-old Palm Harbor man, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash.
The condition of the driver of the Nissan Rogue has not been released at this time.
