House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer officially issued a subpoena to Attorney General Pam Bondi today, March 17, 2026, demanding her appearance for a deposition regarding the Department of Justice’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein investigation.
The move follows a March 4 committee vote where members moved to compel testimony on the agency’s compliance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act.
The investigation is broad, covering potential mismanagement of the federal probe into Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, the circumstances surrounding Epstein’s death, and how the pair may have influenced elected officials to protect their sex-trafficking operations. According to the subpoena, the committee is also looking into potential ethics violations.
“The Committee has questions regarding the Department of Justice’s handling of the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein and his associates and its compliance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act,” Chairman Comer wrote in the letter. He noted that as Attorney General, Bondi is “directly responsible” for overseeing the collection and release of files required by the Act.

The deposition is currently scheduled for April 14, 2026. Committee leaders indicated that the information gathered could lead to new laws aimed at reforming how the federal government handles non-prosecution and plea agreements in sex-crime cases.
Despite the subpoena for a formal deposition next month, a more immediate meeting is already on the books.
Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche are scheduled to give committee members a private briefing tomorrow, Wednesday, March 18. This briefing was organized separately from the subpoena.
The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform maintains wide authority to investigate federal matters, citing House Rule X and Rule XI as the legal basis for requiring Bondi’s testimony and the production of relevant records.
