A Florida man is facing multiple charges after an alleged bizarre incident involving a stolen vehicle, an attempted hit-and-run, and a retreat to a portable toilet where he reportedly shed his pants.

Joshua Mulnix, 43, was arrested by the Sanibel Police Department on October 27 after he allegedly emerged from a beach wearing only sweatpants, trespassed onto private property, and was told to leave by a construction worker.

According to the arrest affidavit, when Mulnix failed to break into a nearby shed, he allegedly found the worker’s Nissan SUV—unlocked with keys inside—got in, and “aggressively accelerate[d]” toward the construction worker.

The worker managed to jump out of the way, avoiding injury, and watched as Mulnix drove away, causing approximately $4,000 in property damage by ramming through a gate.

The erratic episode continued on a separate property where police say Mulnix parked the stolen SUV and ran into a portable toilet. When deputies arrived, the man, later identified as Mulnix, reportedly fled the porta-potty on foot, without his pants, and was allegedly wielding two wooden stakes, according to Gulf Coast News. A deputy subdued him with a Taser as he headed toward another vehicle.

Mulnix has been charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and criminal mischief. He was released on a $7,500 bond on November 4, with his arraignment scheduled for December 8.
