A Georgia man already serving time for a 2016 shooting now faces a murder charge after his victim passed away this spring. Marcus Tobias Jackson was roughly ten years into a 12-year sentence when the legal status of his case shifted from aggravated assault to homicide.
The case dates back to 2016, when Jackson shot Warren Gordon. The shooting left Gordon paralyzed, a condition that confined him to a wheelchair for the last decade. While Jackson was sent to prison, Gordon’s health continued to decline due to the long-term effects of his injuries.
According to reports from WRDW and The Augusta Press, Gordon died in March 2026.
A subsequent autopsy determined that Gordon’s death was caused by infected ulcers, which medical examiners classified as a direct complication of the paralysis he sustained in the shooting. Based on those findings, investigators obtained a murder warrant against Jackson this month.

Before this new charge, Jackson was nearing the end of his original prison term.
Although he was once eligible for early release due to good behavior, his stay was extended in 2023 after he was caught with marijuana while behind bars.
With the murder charge now active, Jackson faces the likelihood of a significantly longer sentence just as his original 2016 penalty was entering its final years.
