PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — Pasco County officials aren’t taking any chances as a nasty cold front continues to hover over the region. With temperatures expected to dip into dangerous territory, the county has officially extended its emergency sheltering through the first week of February. If you or someone you know is stuck outside, help is available on both ends of the county.
The shelters are scheduled to welcome guests tonight, Monday, February 2, and again on Tuesday, February 3. There will be a brief pause on Wednesday, but doors will swing open once more on Thursday, February 5, for another night of protection against the frost.
Each evening, the sites open their doors at 6 p.m. and remain operational until 10 a.m. the following morning. Locals can find warmth at either the Shady Hills Mission Chapel on Greenglen Lane in Spring Hill or the First Nazarene Church of Zephyrhills located on 12th Street.
This move comes as a response to weather that can be genuinely life-threatening for those without a roof.
Authorities are reminding everyone that while the chill is hard on all of us, it is particularly risky for kids, seniors, and our four-legged friends. It’s the kind of weather where a few hours in the elements is a few hours too many.
ORIGINAL REPORT: If you or someone you know needs a warm place to sleep, Pasco County is helping out. The county is extending its cold weather shelter services because the temperature is dropping again.
You can go to a shelter starting Thursday night, January 29. Please keep in mind that they will not be open on Friday night. They will open back up on Saturday, January 31. After that, they will be open every night through Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
Anyone who needs a warm bed is welcome. The doors open at 6 p.m. each evening. They close the next morning at 10 a.m.
