LAND O’ LAKES, Fla. – UPDATE: Pasco County Schools vote yes on a two-week delayed start. Pasco County School Superintendent Kurt Browning recommended a two-week delay to the start of the school year, with students returning on August 24th and teachers on August 17th.

During the school board meeting on Tuesday, Browning said, “The order does not give districts any wiggle room to not open our schools. I don’t necessarily agree with the order but it is an immaterial point.” In reference to the state emergency order for Florida’s Phase-2 school openings.

“Parents, teachers, and staff have made it abundantly clear that they to have concerns,” said Browning.

“I have to be brutally honest here even with the delay there are no absolutely guarantees that the infection rate will improve in that time or that we will have a clear idea whether or not our community has turned the corner in terms of COVID-19,” Browning said.
