LAND O’ LAKES, FL – Pasco County’s push for specialized education is paying off in a big way. Seven local campuses have just been tapped for national honors by Magnet Schools of America (MSA), the premier organization tracking the country’s most innovative public school programs.

The awards are split into two prestigious tiers: Excellence and Distinction. For the local district, these aren’t just badges for the lobby; they represent a high-stakes validation of their “Pasco Pathways” initiative, which lets families choose schools based on specific interests rather than just where they live.

The “Gold Standard” Winners

Three schools walked away with the Magnet Schools Merit Award of Excellence, the highest level of recognition MSA offers. Interestingly, all three are elementary schools following the rigorous Cambridge curriculum:

  • Sunray Elementary
  • Gulf Trace Elementary
  • San Antonio Elementary

Earning “Excellence” status means these schools are considered national models. They didn’t just meet the standards; they were judged on how well they closed achievement gaps and integrated their specialized themes into every single classroom.

Diverse Programs Earn “Distinction”

Another four schools secured the Merit Award of Distinction, highlighting the district’s breadth of specialized options:

  • Starkey Ranch K-8: Focused on Computer Science, Fine Arts, and World Languages.
  • Pine View Middle: Home to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme.
  • Hudson High: Recognized for its Cambridge program.
  • Angeline Academy of Innovation: The district’s flagship STEM-focused secondary school.

“We couldn’t be prouder of the dedication, innovation, and hard work demonstrated by our students, staff, and school communities. Their collective efforts have earned national recognition and continue to strengthen the quality and impact of our magnet programs,” said the district in a statement.

To get on the MSA radar, schools must submit exhaustive applications that are scored by a panel of veteran educators.

They look for more than just high test scores—they want to see how a school uses its “theme” (like STEM or the Arts) to engage families and keep students excited about coming to class every day.
