PASCO COUNTY, Fla. – Drivers in Pasco County should prepare for a slower commute next week as the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) rolls out a fresh round of roadwork projects. Starting as early as Sunday night, January 4, crews will be active on several major arteries, including US 19, US 98, and State Road 54.

The maintenance schedules cover the week of January 4 through January 10, 2026, and impact both daytime commuters and overnight travelers.

Delays on SR 54

State Road 54 is facing a double-whammy of day and night construction. FDOT has scheduled night lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. (Sunday through Thursday) and daytime closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Monday through Friday) for the following stretches:

  • West of Virginia City Drive to Old Mill Pond Drive

  • East of Gunn Highway to east of Crossings Boulevard

Additionally, drivers heading eastbound near US 41 should look out for night closures specifically between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. throughout the workweek.

Flagging Operations on US 98 and CR 54

Motorists on US 98 and CR 54 should be ready for “flagging operations,” meaning traffic may be stopped periodically by work crews directing flow. These operations are set for Monday through Friday, generally between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. affected areas include:

  • US 98: Between CR 54 and the Hillsborough River bridge, and between Old Lakeland Highway and Townsend Road.
  • CR 54: From west of Flint Drive to US 301 (Gall Boulevard).

Officials recommend adding extra time to your travel plans or seeking alternate routes during peak construction hours.
