Pasco County Traffic Alert: Massive Week Of Lane Closures Starts Sunday

PASCO COUNTY, Fla. – Drivers across Pasco County should prepare for a slow commute and late-night detours as the Florida Department of Transportation kicks off a heavy week of maintenance and construction.

Starting Sunday, May 10, several major arteries including I-75, US 98, and SR 52 will see significant lane restrictions that could add some serious time to your daily routes through May 16.

The congestion starts right at the I-75 northbound exit to SR 52. From Sunday night through Thursday morning, crews will shut down one of the two lanes on the ramp between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. While turns will remain available in both directions, the bottleneck is expected to slow down late-night travelers heading into the area.

Further north, US 98 will be under periodic flagging operations between CR 54 and Townsend Road during daylight hours, specifically from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Local commuters in Dade City aren’t catching a break either. The US 98 Bypass, stretching from the 7th Street roundabout to south of Lock Street, will undergo single-lane closures Sunday through Thursday nights. If you are heading toward US 301 on SR 50, keep an eye out on Thursday night, May 14; the right turn lane will be closed until 6 a.m. Friday, though drivers can still make the turn from the through lane.

One of the biggest impacts this week involves SR 52. Eastbound lanes from west of I-75 to Tradeway Boulevard will shut down nightly starting Sunday.

Even more disruptive, the westbound left lane of SR 52 near the Suncoast Parkway will be closed around-the-clock from Monday morning until Friday night. During that same window, the left turn lane from eastbound SR 52 onto the northbound Suncoast Parkway will also see a partial, 24-hour closure.

The Suncoast Parkway itself will see daytime activity at the southbound exit to SR 52, where the right turn lane will be partially or fully closed from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. all week.

Rounding out the district’s schedule, SR 54 at Altamont Lane and CR 54 near US 301 will both experience nightly flagging and lane closures starting at 7 p.m. FDOT District 7 urges all motorists to stay alert, slow down in work zones, and expect delays throughout the county.
