Pasco Schools Still On For Aug 24th Despite Pleas From Public Speakers

August 4, 2020

By: Staff Report

LAND O’ LAKES, Fla. – Pasco Schools are still on the August 24th opening as previously reported.

Despite hearing from multiple public speakers, asking the district to reconsider reopening, Superintendent Kurt Browning reported that more than 66 percent of families surveyed, reported wanting their children to return to brick and mortar classrooms on August 24th, as planned.

One speaker, Patrick Connelly from Zephyrhills, came to the meeting donning a full-on bubble suit and spoke his mind during the public comment from the rear podium. Mr. Connelly said, “The district keeps saying our hands are tied by Tallahassee.”

Superintendent Kurt Browning said, “Listen, I don’t doubt for one minute the teachers that have appeared before us today that have concerns don’t want to be back. Absolutely. I know they want to be back. Who doesn’t want to be back in a normal classroom setting? But we also have teachers out there that right now don’t share those same concerns.”
