CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. – Residents of Citrus County planning to trek across the globe no longer need to spend their morning stuck in traffic just to get a mandatory yellow fever shot or a malaria briefing.
The Florida Department of Health in Citrus County (DOH-Citrus) officially opened its new Travel Health Program this week, bringing specialized international medical services directly to the local community.
The program is designed to act as a one-stop shop for anyone heading out of the country. Once a traveler books a consultation, they sit down with a health specialist who breaks down the specific risks associated with their destination.
These experts track everything from localized disease outbreaks to the standard vaccinations required for entry into various nations, offering tailored advice on how to stay safe while abroad.
For many locals, the biggest perk isn’t just the medical advice—it’s the saved mileage.

“Through the new Travel Health Program, we are able to provide another service for our county residents,” said Administrator Gayle Guidash. “We have many residents who must travel two or three hours to receive required health services for mission trips or other international travel plans. This program allows them to receive those services here in Citrus County.”
The logistics of the program are straightforward. Because the services are highly specialized, the department requires all participants to pay a $100 consultation fee in addition to the costs of any specific vaccines or medications administered. All payments must be settled before the services are rendered.
The clinic is not operating on a walk-in basis. Travelers looking to clear their medical checklist before their next flight must schedule an appointment in advance by calling 352-513-6090.
Whether it is a humanitarian mission or a bucket-list vacation, the county now has the tools to make sure the only thing residents bring back from their trip is souvenirs.
