Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro (D) appeared on NBC’s “Meet the Press” this morning, where he was pressed on his political ambitions for 2028 and his past counsel to former President Joe Biden.

During the interview with moderator Kristen Welker, Shapiro repeatedly deflected questions about a potential presidential run, instead emphasizing his focus on his current role and his upcoming reelection campaign for governor.

“Again, I’m focused on doing my work here,” Shapiro stated, “and I’ll make an announcement about my reelection soon.” When asked directly if he would rule out a 2028 bid, he reiterated his commitment to his current work, saying, “we’re going to focus on 2026 and the work we’re doing here.”

The most revealing moment came when Welker brought up former Vice President Kamala Harris’s recent comments, where she called it “reckless” for Biden’s inner circle not to intervene in his decision-making. While Shapiro declined to comment on Harris’s specific language, he confirmed he took direct action himself.

“I made a point to speak to the people around the president repeatedly about what I saw were worrying signs here in Pennsylvania,” Shapiro said. He then added, “when I felt that they were not sharing that information directly with the president, I went directly to the president…and shared that with him when we met at a coffee shop in Harrisburg.”

Shapiro described being “very direct and very blunt about what I saw were worrying signs electorally, about his prospects to be able to win again.” His comments shed light on the internal concerns within the Democratic party and the efforts made by some officials to communicate those worries directly to the former president.

The interview offered little clarity on Shapiro’s long-term political plans but highlighted his role as a prominent voice within the Democratic party and his willingness to deliver candid assessments, even to those in the highest office.
