Pennsylvania Gov. Shapiro Sidesteps Questions On Sen. John Fetterman Silence

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro says he has “no beef” with Senator John Fetterman, despite the two high-profile Democrats reportedly no longer being on speaking terms. During a Sunday appearance on the podcast “Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso,” Shapiro was pushed to explain the communication breakdown that has become a focal point of Pennsylvania politics following the 2024 presidential election.

The friction between the two men gained public attention after Fetterman reportedly lobbied against Shapiro during Kamala Harris’s search for a running mate. Fragoso cited Fetterman’s 2025 memoir, “Unfettered,” in which the Senator confirmed the duo does not speak.

When asked why the relationship had soured, Shapiro deflected the responsibility to his colleague. “Yeah, you got to ask him,” Shapiro told Fragoso. “I mean, I’ve got no beef with John. I didn’t write about him in my book other than, you know, where we would pass an event or what have you.”

Fragoso challenged the Governor, noting that a relationship requires two people, but Shapiro maintained his stance. He suggested that Fetterman “has a lot of questions that I think he needs to answer for the people of Pennsylvania,” regarding his recent political shifts and behavior.

Despite the personal silence, Shapiro insisted that state business remains unaffected. He pointed to a recent meeting with Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy as evidence that their respective staffs continue to collaborate on infrastructure and policy.

The tension is rooted in the fallout of the 2024 campaign, where Harris eventually chose Minnesota Governor Tim Walz over Shapiro. In her own 2025 book, “107 Days,” Harris claimed she passed on Shapiro due to “unrealistic expectations.” Conversely, Shapiro’s January book, “Where We Keep the Light,” suggested his Jewish faith may have played a role in the decision.

Fetterman has increasingly distanced himself from the Democratic establishment, making headlines for visiting Mar-a-Lago to meet with Donald Trump and breaking with the party on Middle East policy. As both men are viewed as potential 2028 presidential contenders, the rift has created a complicated dynamic in Harrisburg.

Shapiro has notably declined to offer a firm endorsement for Fetterman’s potential Senate reelection bid, while Fetterman has recently refused to rule out his own run for the White House.

When asked if he was at least open to a conversation to bridge the gap, Shapiro stated he would “talk to anybody.”
