A 26-year-old Pennsylvania man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities rescued a 13-year-old Louisiana girl from a makeshift prison in his basement, where she was allegedly held inside a box and repeatedly sexually assaulted.
According to police, the suspect, Ki-Shawn Crumity, met the teen on Snapchat and lured her to travel over 1,000 miles from her home under the false pretense of helping her get adopted by a “trusted adult.” The victim’s journey involved first traveling to Georgia and then to Washington, D.C., before arriving in Pittsburgh with an adult woman.
On October 30, 2025, U.S. Marshals alerted Pittsburgh police and led the SWAT team to execute a federal search warrant at a home in the city’s Brighton Heights neighborhood. There, investigators found the girl hidden in the basement, concealed inside a box that was covered with a sheet.
The victim, who had been reported missing the previous week, told police that Crumity gave her alcohol and marijuana edibles and sexually assaulted her multiple times a day during her captivity. Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill stated the girl was “groomed, exploited, and then sexually abused by strangers who found her online.”
Crumity has been charged with trafficking in individuals, statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, sexual assault, and selling or furnishing alcohol. He is being held without bail in Allegheny County. Authorities say he is one of three suspects in the case; at least one other man, Ronald Smith, 62, of New Orleans, has been arrested in Georgia on related charges.
The case is under investigation by multiple agencies, including the FBI.
