Democratic Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania recently spoke on Fox News, stating his firm refusal to demonize political opponents or use extreme labels against them.
This stance comes amid escalating political tensions, highlighted by former Vice President Kamala Harris calling President Donald Trump a fascist. During his appearance on “Jesse Watters Primetime,” Fetterman argued that Democrats undermine their own credibility when they resort to labeling opponents as “fascists.”
Fetterman explicitly stated his opposition to using inflammatory rhetoric: “I refuse to do [it] as a Democrat. I’m not gonna call you a fascist or a Nazi. I’m not gonna compare anyone to Hitler or anything. That’s wrong. And if you resort to that thing, you’ve lost the plot.”
He elaborated on the issue, explaining that to label Trump a fascist implies that his supporters, too, might be viewed as such, which Fetterman believes is fundamentally untrue. He emphasized that he knows people who voted for the other side and believes they “are not trying to destroy our Constitution.”
Instead of vilifying those across the aisle, Fetterman is determined to engage in conversation.
He underscored the need for dialogue, saying, “I’m gonna have a conversation with the other side, and that’s where I’m at. And I’m gonna show up and talk to anyone who invites me to be here. Because we really need each other.”
The Senator has a history of speaking out against his own party, notably during a previous government shutdown when he criticized Democratic leaders for refusing to pay essential workers, urging his colleagues to “cut the s–t” and reopen the government.
