Democratic Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania was briefly hospitalized on Thursday after suffering a fall near his home in Braddock, Pennsylvania, his spokesperson confirmed. The incident occurred as Congress is currently out of session, allowing lawmakers to return home before legislative business resumes on Monday.

The Senator was walking when he became light-headed and fell to the ground, prompting him to be ushered to a Pittsburgh hospital “out of an abundance of caution.”

Upon evaluation, doctors determined the cause of the fall was a ventricular fibrillation flare-up, a heart rhythm disorder. The flare-up caused him to feel light-headed, leading to the fall. Senator Fetterman sustained minor injuries to his face from hitting the ground.

His spokesperson quickly released a statement assuring the public that Fetterman is “doing well” and is choosing to remain at the hospital for routine observation and to “fine-tune” his treatment plan for the existing heart disorder.

The Senator, known for his distinct and often humorous online presence, offered a lighthearted comment on the situation in a statement from the hospital: “If you thought my face looked bad before, wait until you see it now!”

The incident brings renewed attention to the Senator’s health, following his previous hospitalization and recovery from a stroke in 2022.
