A late-night medical report released by the White House on Friday declares President Donald Trump to be in “excellent health” and fully fit for office, pushing back against recent cable news speculation about his physical and mental well-being. The three-page memorandum, signed by White House physician Dr. Sean Barbarella and released just before 11 p.m., details the findings of Trump’s annual physical exam conducted on Tuesday at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
The release follows days of intense media coverage regarding the 79-year-old president’s health. Earlier in the week, the White House sharply criticized CNN over a segment that accused Trump of frequently falling asleep during public events and unofficially diagnosing him with severe daytime sleepiness.
According to the official data, Trump’s weight has increased to 238 pounds, up from the 224 pounds recorded in his medical report last year. Standing at 6’3″ (75 inches), his other baseline vitals include a resting heart rate of 73 beats per minute, blood pressure of 105/71 mmHg, and a normal body temperature of 98.7 °F.
Dr. Barbarella’s report heavily emphasizes advanced cardiac and neurological testing. An AI-enhanced electrocardiogram (ECG) analysis estimated Trump’s “cardiac age” to be roughly 14 years younger than his actual chronological age. Furthermore, a coronary CT angiography showed no arterial blockages or structural heart issues.
On the cognitive and neurological front, the report states that Trump achieved a perfect score of 30 out of 30 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). The exam noted a “normal mental status, intact cranial nerves, normal motor strength, sensation, reflexes, gait, and balance,” while standard screenings for depression and anxiety also came back normal.
The examination noted only a few minor physical issues. Doctors observed slight lower leg swelling, though the memo stated this had improved compared to last year’s checkup. Additionally, examiners found bruising on the backs of Trump’s hands, which Dr. Barbarella attributed to “minor soft tissue irritation related to frequent handshaking in the setting of aspirin use.” The physician called this a common and benign side effect of daily aspirin therapy used for cardiovascular prevention. The exam also noted scarring on his right ear from a prior gunshot injury, though his hearing remains intact.
Trump’s laboratory results, including blood counts and metabolic panels, fell entirely within normal parameters. His lipid panel showed a total cholesterol level of 143 mg/dL, with “bad” cholesterol (LDL) at an optimal 53 mg/dL and “good” cholesterol (HDL) at 70 mg/dL.
The evaluation involved consultations with 22 specialty providers from multiple academic institutions and followed the guidelines of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force.
In his concluding summary, Dr. Barbarella wrote that Trump “remains in excellent health, demonstrating strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and overall physical function.” The physician noted that the president’s demanding daily schedule and regular physical activity continue to support his well-being, concluding that “he is fully fit to carry out all duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State.”
