Phone Call Persuasion: Davenport Woman Surrenders After Late-Night Hit-And-Run

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – An early Monday morning drive in Loughman turned into a felony investigation after a two-vehicle collision led to a police search and an eventual surrender. The incident unfolded around 1:30 a.m. on April 13th at the intersection of Ronald Reagan Parkway and Lake Wilson Road.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the crash left one driver with minor injuries. While that individual was transported to a local hospital for treatment and later released, the second driver involved failed to remain at the scene.

Deputies reported that the suspect fled the area immediately following the impact in a white Kia Soul.

The investigation quickly moved to a nearby shopping plaza. Deputies successfully tracked down the Kia Soul, which had been left parked and unoccupied behind a Wing Stop restaurant.

After identifying the owner, a deputy managed to reach the suspect by phone. During the conversation, the deputy convinced the woman to turn herself in, leading to a surrender without further incident.

The driver was identified as 30-year-old Tianna Marie Velazquez of Davenport. Authorities stated that Velazquez confessed to being behind the wheel at the time of the collision.

She was subsequently arrested and transported to the Sheriff’s Processing Center. Records show Velazquez has been booked on a third-degree felony charge of Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Injury.
