PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – Pinellas County Sheriff’s detectives are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the death of a 39-year-old inmate who passed away Thursday morning following a medical transfer.

Louie Thomas was pronounced dead at a local hospital at 8:20 a.m. on December 11, investigators confirmed. He had been transported from the Pinellas County Jail the previous afternoon, around 1:46 p.m., after staff determined he needed further medical evaluation.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the death does not appear to be suspicious in nature.

Detectives with the Robbery/Homicide Unit noted that there is currently no evidence suggesting Thomas was involved in any physical altercations or fights during his time in custody.

Thomas had been held at the facility since October 29. He was booked on a list of charges that included violation of an injunction, obstruction without violence, and failure to appear in court for possession of methamphetamine and criminal mischief.

While the investigation remains active, authorities emphasized the lack of suspicious factors leading up to the hospitalization.
