PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – Detectives from the Pinellas County Robbery and Homicide Unit have opened an investigation into the death of 64-year-old Mark LeDiet, who passed away Monday morning while in medical custody. Officials currently report that the circumstances surrounding the death do not appear suspicious.

LeDiet was originally taken into custody on February 28, 2026, by the Indian Shores Police Department on a charge of domestic battery. He remained at the Pinellas County Jail until March 13, 2026, when he was moved to a local hospital to receive treatment for an existing medical condition.

According to investigators, LeDiet suffered a sudden medical emergency while at the hospital. Staff pronounced him dead at 9:23 a.m. on March 16, 2026.

Preliminary findings from the Robbery and Homicide Unit indicate that LeDiet was not involved in any physical fights or altercations during his time at the jail. Detectives stated they found no evidence of injuries sustained while he was incarcerated.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities wait for final medical reports, though current evidence points toward natural causes related to his health history.
