PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – Pinellas County residents planning to run errands at government offices this coming Monday might want to double-check the calendar. While many people will be observing Presidents Day on Feb. 16, Pinellas County Government is utilizing the date for an internal in-service training day.

This scheduled break from public-facing operations is designed to give staff the headspace to align their daily tasks with the county’s broader strategic goals and set project priorities for the remainder of the year.

The move means a variety of essential offices will be shuttered for the day. If you were planning on visiting Human Services, the Contractor Licensing department, or Building and Development Review Services, you’ll need to wait until Tuesday.

Additionally, those looking to visit the Animal Services adoption center or the Supervisor of Elections offices will find the doors locked. Even Utilities Customer Service is taking the day off to focus on internal development.

However, the closures aren’t across the board. If you have a literal ton of trash to move, the Solid Waste Disposal Complex is keeping its gates open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., though its administrative building and the Household Hazardous Waste Center will remain closed.

For those looking to enjoy the holiday outdoors, there is plenty of good news. All county parks, preserves, and the Florida Botanical Gardens remain open for visitors. Boat ramps and beach access points are also staying active, providing the usual recreational outlets for a mid-February Monday. It is worth noting that while the parks are open, the administrative offices for Parks and Conservation Resources will be closed, and Heritage Village will follow its standard Monday closure.

Interestingly, several key constitutional offices are skipping the training day entirely. The Clerk of the Circuit Court, the Property Appraiser, and the Tax Collector will all maintain their normal business hours. Furthermore, the courts within the Sixth Judicial Circuit—covering both Pinellas and Pasco—will remain in session as usual.

Everything is expected to return to its standard schedule on Tuesday, Feb. 17. Residents are encouraged to handle any urgent county business before the weekend or wait until the mid-week reopening to avoid any holiday-related delays.
